Affluence is… a Bonnet Top Connecticut Highboy

Mid 17th century colonial settlers had little more than the most primary of pursuits… food, shelter and security. Very little in the way of furniture was transported from Europe as crossing ships dedicated their cargos to passengers and essentials. However, fine furniture making emerged in colonial America by the beginning of the 18th century. Fine furniture craftsmen reproduced furniture styles from their homelands from memory.

As the 18th century unfolded, those of affluence indulged in furniture crafted in the styles of William and Mary and Queen Anne. Sumptuous cherry and tiger maple hardwoods embellished with delicate carvings adorned elegant chests of drawers, night stands and highboys. Our collection of antique reproduction colonial furniture boasts wonderful examples of William and Mary furniture and Queen Anne furniture for your enjoyment. For those who think that less is more, be sure to peruse our selection of Shaker chests of drawers.
